Assessing the Damage: Repair for a Leaking Roof in Columbus, OH

A homeowner in Columbus, OH, reached out to Klaus Larsen Roofing after discovering an active leak in their roof. Unsure of the roof’s age or overall condition, they wanted a professional evaluation to determine whether a repair could resolve the issue or if a full roof replacement was necessary. Our team promptly scheduled an inspection to assess the damage and pinpoint the source of the leak.

During the inspection, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the roof, checking for worn shingles, water damage, and structural concerns while ensuring no hidden issues were overlooked. Once the assessment was complete, we provided the homeowner with clear recommendations—whether a targeted repair would suffice or if replacing the roof entirely would ensure long-term durability and protection. At Klaus Larsen Roofing, we pride ourselves on delivering honest, reliable advice and high-quality solutions to safeguard homes and restore peace of mind.

Having recently moved in last February, they weren’t sure about the roof’s age or condition, but the persistent leaks demanded immediate attention. Roof Repair After Raccoon Damage - Columbus, OH

A homeowner on the east side of Columbus, OH, contacted us after discovering significant damage caused by a raccoon in their attic. The animal had torn off sections of the sheathing from the inside, leading to a leak. While the homeowner attempted an interior fix, they needed a professional assessment and repair from the outside. Their immediate priority was to have the damaged area tarped if possible, and they inquired about potential senior citizen or veteran discounts.

For the repair, we replaced the back slope using IKO Frostone Grey shingles, with the homeowner understanding that it would not match the front slope. To ensure long-term durability and protection, we applied an ice and water membrane according to KRS specifications—6 feet at eaves wrapped onto the fascia, 18 inches on either side of valleys, and around all roof penetrations. We also installed KRS Velora 1 Synthetic Underlayment on all decking areas without ice and water barriers, providing a tear-resistant, water-repelling layer. To further reinforce the roof, we added brown F-8 aluminum drip edge flashing along all eaves, sealing it with 4-inch modified Bitumen tape to prevent water backup in the event of ice dams. With these repairs, the homeowner can rest assured that their roof is now properly sealed and protected from further damage.
