n 2021, Klaus Roofing of Ohio replaced the gutters for a homeowner, but after heavy rains, the customer noticed basement flooding due to water pouring off the roof on the east side of the house, which lacked gutters. Concerned about this, the homeowner reached out for a solution. During our inspection, we found not only the need for additional gutters but also issues with soft, damp CDX plywood on the roof caused by poor attic ventilation.

The attic air was hot and stagnant, with some soffit vents blocked by blown-in insulation installed by the homeowner’s late husband. We proposed installing new gutters and downspouts, replacing the damaged CDX with OSB boards, and adding SmartEave vents to improve ventilation. The homeowner understood that more roof boards might need replacement than initially expected, and we kept her informed throughout the project.

Our team first installed the new gutters and downspouts on the east side to manage water runoff and prevent further basement flooding. Next, we removed and replaced the soft, damp sections of the roof with durable OSB boards. Lastly, we installed the SmartEave vents to ensure proper airflow in the attic and prevent future moisture buildup.

Once the project was complete, the homeowner noticed immediate improvements. The water was now properly diverted away from the foundation, eliminating the flooding problem. The roof was stronger, and the attic ventilation was vastly improved, giving the homeowner peace of mind that her home was well-protected for the long term.
