What A Lot of Roofers Miss

Kickout flashings are incredibly important to the integrity of the roof—but are often overlooked by roofers!

A kickout flashing is a specially modified piece of step flashing that is installed when an eave runs perpendicular into a wall.

Kickout flashings are easily overlooked but are critically important to the integrity of the roof. In the absence of a kickout flashing water will follow the step flashing down and then drain behind the siding, soaking the sheathing of the house. This condition can go unnoticed for years, resulting in extensive rot and damage behind the siding.

Preformed kickout flashings can be purchased in aluminum, copper, steel, lead, or plastic and come in a variety of colors. Additionally, an effective kickout flashing can be made quickly and easily from a piece of regular step flashing.

If a kickout flashing is needed, it will be used in place of the first piece of step flashing at the bottom of a run so that any water that runs down the step flashing detail will be ejected out onto the roof and into the gutter, and not behind the siding.

If you're home is missing a kickout flashing, the water will run behind the siding and rot the sheathing and potentially the framing of the house from the inside out. Don't let this happen to you, contact us today for a FREE estimate!
